| So I read an article about limewire getting shut down because of all the illegal music downloads going on and first thought that sucks cause i went on limewire occasionally.. Then I thought it was interesting it took so long to get shut down..
And also I did a report today in a law class about an article where a lady got sued by a record company for $1.5 million (USD) for illegally downloading 24 songs and then redistributing them..
Seems like quite the illegal download crackdown :\

| Ya, that's the criminal prostitution system at it's best This particular case you would find is that it's setting a case law, or an example of what's going on or going to happen in the future. Yes, lime was was shut down due to the MASSIVE amount of illegal music, but also because of ILLEGAL copies of PAID products, both computer and physical products. 1.5M US$ does seem fair, ill explain. major company wants retribution thus; 24 songs x amount of distribution x the period of time it was there for x the possibility that it was taken off & replaced again So, although that 1 CD of 24 songs may of only been say 30 US$, but that company could of potentially made in excess of 4000 US$ + And then the band are missing their royalties from that music company, that's in excess of 1000 US$ The music company needs to pay their royalties = bigger suit = more money to cover legal costs. Do you understand this? | |

| Oh dude I understand it all.. leaving room for discussion lol.
Yea they said if she bought it on iTunes it woulda cost just under $25 US But court costs and everything are under $100 000 US and she claims not to have redistributed (even though limewire is p2p so she redistributed whether she knew it or not)
I think the penalty is a bit stiff..

| It's already shut down josh. It might be harsh, but it's setting case laws, precedents and such. It will get worse in time hehe | |

I have been using iTunes Store for the past year anyway, so I don't care. I got sick of low quality songs on Limewire.

| I'm not going to start a debate, because I know I am going to lose: downloading music is just as illegal as stealing anything else; start buying your music! Whether it be digitally, in CD format, or LP format. | |
